Andrea Rossi has said on many occasions that the science behind LENR is good, solid physics. Given the history of LENR and cold fusion, that is a significant statement. For 20 years, cold fusion has battled the reputation of being a pseudo-science. Scientists with any concern for their reputation have had to keep their interests in LENR in check, or do their work quietly in order to preserve their reputation.
Just recently, on the Journal of Nuclear Physics, Andy Kumar asked Rossi about physics and the Rossi Effect. He stated:
“Recently, you have been calling the anomalous heat as Rossi Effect. I think you now have a better theoretical understanding of the effect and are confident in calling it Rossi Effect. Prof. Focardi seems to have helped you with the mathematics for the theory. Could you tell us if you see any evidence for the fifth fundamental force at work in this Rossi Effect?”
Andrea Rossi replied:
“The Rossi effect is perfectly understandable with the well known Physics laws. Prof. Sergio Focardi, when the tide of skeptical voices chimed in along our way, used to say: ‘They say your technology is against the Physics laws because they do not know your technology and also did not study well enough the Physics laws: the bases of your technology are right there.’”
Physics is described as 4 fundamental forces that shape physical reality. The fifth force referred to by Mr. Kumar is sometimes postulated as being about as strong as gravity – meaning, that it is very weak, in comparison to nuclear forces or electromagnetism. Some experiments were done in the 1980 that demonstrated the existence of the fifth force, but those experiments have not been duplicated. It is said that one of the problems is that the fifth force is so weak that it is difficult to devise equipment that could record it.
Whether the fifth force exists or not, however, does not seem to affect LENR as Rossi produces it. He clearly states in his response that his technology actually fits in with traditional, proven physics. Mr. Focardi’s assertion is both heartwarming and accurate. Those who say that Rossi’s technology cannot work don’t know Mr. Rossi’s technology, and probably don’t know physics very well, either. No wonder Rossi is so unstoppable – he had quite an advocate in his camp in Mr. Focardi.
