Riding the LENR Wave

The quest for a source of new energy provides hope to many people worldwide.

When Andrea Rossi introduced to the public that he has developed a working LENR device, it definitely shocked some of the people in the world especially the scientific community. But there was no denying that the controversial announcement also revived the others’ strong and confident expectation of a groundbreaking invention that could help solve the world’s energy crisis and put an end to environmental pollution. According to Rossi, his famous invention called energy catalyzer is a low energy nuclear reactor that is safe, clean and cheap. The Italian inventor stated that his LENR device uses nickel and hydrogen applied with a secret catalyst. As a result of this reaction, the technology produces vast quantities of heat.

In a few years, LENR technologies could replace coal-powered plants. This would be the time that the world bids farewell to electric power plants that use coal as fuel succumbing to its natural death. As soon as working LENR devices will be available in the marketplace, people will eventually choose to use them due to the benefits of electric power generation by LENR.

Following the hype created by Rossi’s e-cat device for home heating purposes, a US company released its own LENR technology that shares quite similar qualities with Rossi’s domestic e-cat units. Like Leonardo Corporation, others have claimed that they have developed a working device that could actually be used to heat boilers in power plants. The more individuals and companies focusing on developing working LENR devices, the better as this could help strengthen the credibility of the market opportunities surrounding this breakthrough technology.

Leonardo Corporation is Rossi’s US-based company that manufactures e-cat units for home use. Leonardo is currently working on developing the industrialized line able to produce one million units of home-based e-cats that are expected to hit the marketplace in the next 2 years (as per Rossi’s estimations).

Moreover, the company is also working a 45 MW e-cat unit that could generate electricity with the support of Siemens turbine. On the other hand, Brillouin Energy Corporation is another LENR company that has also developed their own device based on the cold fusion experiment of Dr. Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons.

The founder and president of Brillouin Robert Godes told James Martinez during his interview in Cash Flow radio program that the system his company is developing will be able to generate electric power out of some of the existing coal-powered plants. Godes is the chief technology officer of Brillouin. He was interviewed by Martinez last week.

The cold fusion experiment of Fleischmann and Pons shook the scientific and academic world in 1989. Although it was considered a big failure at the time, it continues to provide hope to many scientists who believe in the potential of cold fusion.

An electrical engineer, Godes started to take a serious look at cold fusion since 1992. For ten years now, he has been working on developing a technology and a control system for it. During his interview, Godes revealed to Martinez that he has developed an electronic control system that can be used to heat water for boilers.

Moreover, Brillouin is planning to license two different wet boiler technologies, capable to heat water to 140 degrees Celsius. Brillouin is in thick of many things as the company is also currently working with research company SRI. The purpose is to develop a steam boiler in the hope to make steam by heating water to 400 to 450 degrees Celsius. However, Godes admitted that they have not perfected the steam boiler yet. He also did not disclose the size of the device, its buying price and how many kilowatts of heat it would produce.

Brillouin’s CEO venture capitalist Robert George, who accompanied Godes during the radio interview, told Martinez that they plan to license boiler technology to other companies but the company is still not working with any of the big companies that had contacted them. Meanwhile, Leonardo Corporation is pursuing to get their device certified.

Brillouin also uses nickel and hydrogen and ordinary water for their system. It is also interesting to note that they have had a test reactor up and running at their facility in Berkeley California since October 2010, while Rossi once said that he and his team are also using e-cat units. The location of Rossi’s facility however remains unknown so far.

Another thing that both technologies have in common is the fact that both are constantly doing further research in order to improve their technologies and make their products commercially viable and sooner or later they will get there.

  1. Let us not forget when heaping praise upon these individuals.
No one has produced a workable device for independent testing
nor have they sold a workable device to anyone but “secret” customers.
So to say we are now in the “LENR Age” is grossly over optimistic!
In fact there is NO evidence at all that anyone has something close
to a commercial application for LENR.
The operative word being used is EVIDENCE!

  2. jetmech: “No one has produced a workable device for independent testing”

This is one of the characteristics of the paraskeptic, refuse to examine the evidence, then claim ‘no evidence’. Why bother with facts, when it’s so much easier to be an armchair critic?
The ParaSkeptic – who/what is he protecting? Paranoia is a disease, seek help.

  3. Let’s take a bi-i-i-i-g look at the above graph, showing the assumed/presumed dominance of LENR as the chief electrical power source in the next millenia. LENR is very good indeed, but it’s not the only system claiming overunity, and I suggest it will not be the dominant one of the future. Check out the various coil/windings-based systems under claim, usually titled, “electromagnetic” devices, or some such. These are based on carefully researched input pulses with specific voltage/current ranges, pulse widths, rest time between pulses, frequencies etc. Therefore, the electronic controllers of same are the key components of these devices. The input pulses and voltage spikes are akin to sorts of electromagnetic “hammer blows” to force “virtual photons” from the vacuum of space (the resurrection of the word “aether”) into the secondary windings of these devices, and in one case, the tertiary windings. Yes they look like transformers, and indeed, traditional step-up transformer functionality is part of their operation. But, that just scratches the surface.
