Andrea Rossi has shared a little bit of information summing up the capabilities of the Hot Cat. Bernie Koppenhofer asked several question of Mr. Rossi:
“1) How efficient has it become using the Carnot cycle gauge? 2)Have you made any progress with using thermoelectric process? Do you see a future in using thermoelectric process? 3) in what areas of research has your partner helped you the most?”
The Carnot cycle numbers are as expected – 30 to 35% efficiency.
Andrea Rossi also stated that they have not made any progress in using thermoelectric process. However, concerning whether or not there is a future in the thermoelectric process, Mr. Rossi said:
“(I) should have the crystal ball”
Of particular interest is what Rossi has to say about which area his U.S. partner has been of help. He said:
“all of them”
That, as usual, is a big statement contained in a three-word comment. “All of them” means that the new partner is making manufacturing facilities available. “All of them” means that there is money for continued development and research. “All of them” means that Rossi has all of the workers he needs to continue development of the LENR devices he has built. This is encouraging, especially in an atmosphere in which LENR is still a scientific step child. And, considering the world economy, it is also encouraging to know that the money will be there to keep Andrea Rossi and his team going.

What is a Carnot cycle? I have heard about Carnot efficiency, Rankine cycle Brayton cycle etc….but not the Carnot cycle as a real thermodynamic cycle…….And if the Carnot efficiency is 35 %….it is not impressive since it is an upper limit

The Carnot cycle is the theoretically ideal thermodynamic cycle. It uses the expansion of gas via direct contact with the heat source. It is more of a theoretical cycle than a real heat engine cycle.

Exactly…theoretical……..
So Mr Rossis answers is about a theroretical thermydynamic cycle……..so……what is the definition of his 30-35%

None of these messages he has been giving really amount to anything. Getting because all we get from Rossi is talk.

Rossi says a lot, yet says nothing.

This constant use of “Carnot cycle” is misuse of the term. It’s the cycle of reversible isothermal/isentrophycal compressions/expansions of an ideal gas. Of 200+ known thermodinamic cycles it’s the most efficient one, a theoretic limit used as a benchmark for all others. Rossi obviously uses Rankine or, possibly, Brayton cycle, and “Carnot efficiency” is obviously just a shorthand for “thermodynamic efficiency” (mechanic to thermal energy ratio).

But still strange. Why is he talking about a theoretical value if the e-cat is used used for a real thermodynamic power generating cycle? He must simply know the name of the cycle. His answer really makes me suspicious.

Many hypotheses, one is that he plays with the public like a clown.
This man is strange on Internet, yet people who met him find him normal, and see him really working on a real thing…
He have been wounded, probably screwed by corruption and mafia (It is credible since while accused of many crime, US DoD had a contract with him… it failed, but DoD at leach check the criminal record before contracting). I’m quite critical on Rossi, but people who met him are much more comfortable.
He might have problems, but sure he have something.
One big hypothesis is that he plays with us, and it would be deserved because some behave like with a pop star.

@praos
Well said.
Even ThermoElectric (Seebeck, Thermoionic) generators are limited by Carnot Cycle, like any machine that convert heat to mechanic/electric energy…
